How Do I Get Started with a Short Code Account?

Short codes are five-digit sending numbers commonly used by organizations to engage with their supporters. You can only send messages to recipients who have opted into your short code program directly.

Why should I use Switchboard for my short code program?

  • All of the same Switchboard features you know and love on your long code account will be exactly the same on your Switchboard short code account! 

  • You can easily create audiences across programs to suppress numbers from your short code program on your long code program!

How long does it take to get set up on short code?

When setting up your short code account, we will work with you at every step of the way to ensure the process is moving as quickly as possible. You can expect the following timelines: 

  • If you are transferring an existing short code number, it will take between 4-6 weeks. 

    • Note: you can send on your old short code provider up to the moment the transfer takes place so you shouldn’t have any sending downtime!

  • If you are starting a new short code, it will take between 4-6 weeks.

In addition to the per message price there is also a $500/month lease fee for the sending number that we pass through at cost. 

What do I need to get set up on short code?

  • You can find the list of everything you need to start a new short code program or a short code migration here!

  • The vetting process is very strict. We will review all the information you submit and work with you closely to make updates before submitting to third party vendors for their review. 

Will my short code be in a separate Switchboard account? 

  • Yes, the accounts will be separate and you will receive a separate invoice for your short code account.
