Changes to Google Postmaster Tools - October 1, 2025

Last updated: October 2, 2025

Google is updating the data available via Google Postmaster Tools (GPT). These changes may affect how you monitor and assess Gmail deliverability. Below is what you need to know—and what we at Switchboard are doing to support you. Google's official sender guidance can be found here.

What You Should Do

  1. Focus on complaint rate & engagement
Lower your spam complaint rates (aim well under 0.3%, ideally under 0.1%) and maintain good engagement, with a focus on clicks.

  2. Review the Delivery Errors tab

    1. If you see the "Rate Limit Exceeded" error, reach out to Switchboard to lower your sending speed. By default, we send a little under 5,000 emails per hour, but this is something we can speed up or down.

    2. If you are seeing spam-related alerts, review your recent content and targeting.

  3. Prepare for API migration
If you or your team pull GPT data into dashboards or reports, plan for the migration to the v2 API once it's available.

  4. Reach out if Google flags any issues
If Google sends you a notice (for example about unsubscribes), or you see surprising flags in the new GPT, contact Switchboard support— we happy to help you interpret and act.

What’s Changing

  • v1 Interface Retired

    • As of September 30, 2025, Google will retire the classic (v1) Postmaster Tools interface. Users will be automatically redirected to the new v2 dashboard.

  • Domain & IP Reputation Dashboards Removed

    • The charts showing “Domain Reputation” and “IP Reputation” will no longer be available.

  • New Compliance Dashboard & Sender Requirements

    • GPT now includes a Compliance Dashboard that shows whether domains meet Google’s sender requirements.

  • Unsubscribe / Honor Unsubscribe

    • Google has added “Honor Unsubscribe” as a requirement; senders must ensure unsubscribe requests are honored.

    • Google has started emailing some senders when unsubscribe processing seems broken.

  • API Changes / Migration

    • The current (v1) API will continue to function for now

    • Once the v2 API launches in late 2025, the existing one will be deprecated

What This Means for You as a Switchboard Email Sender

  • We will no longer be able to show Google's Domain / IP reputation in the Email Analytics dashboard

  • Instead, you’ll need to lean more on domain complaint rates and and engagement signals. High complaint rates likely mean a low reputation.

  • If you currently have custom dashboards or integrations that fetch GPT data, those will need updates to use the new (v2) API when available.

What Switchboard Is Doing / Will Do

  • We’re monitoring these changes closely and will integrate the new GPT v2 API when it's released.

  • We already enforce proper authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) for your sending domains.

  • We maintain unsubscribe compliance across our email system to meet Gmail’s standards.

  • We will update our support documentation and email analytics dashboard to reflect any new metrics you’ll need to monitor.

  • We proactively monitor the health of our sending IPs, including tracking if the IPs are listed on any internal blocklists.
